Palm Oil

To us it seems quite evident that the increasing palm oil production is at least partially responsible for the ongoing destruction of the peat swamp forests in South East Asia.
Of course there are numerous pro and contra opinions posted all over the internet.
Here is a selection of four, informative and/or more critical ones:

Wetlands International

Wetlands International is non profit organisation with headquarters in the Netherlands and bureaus in several countries. It is dedicated to the conservation and restauration of the world’s wetlands, marches, peat swamps for sustainable use by the local people, keeping the biodiversity.
The international homepage is in English but the pages focussing on national or regional aspects are partially in respective languages — French, Spanish.
I’m not quite sure what to think of Shell Oil being a partner organization but anyway.

Borneo’s deforestation

There is a map showing the deforestation on Borneo since 1950.
Admitted that it is difficult to say wether this is a legitimate illustation based on facts — It appears probable, at least based on the inormation given by Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deforestation_in_Indonesia).
